Breath

It all begins with breath.

Close your eyes and take a deep breath, imagine your lungs filling and pulling down so that you become nothing but air. Hold it, so that you could float in the breeze if untethered. Let the air leave you, and let it take your worries and your stress. As you focus on breath, let everything else go. In this moment, nothing matters but the breath that sustains you.

Hold onto one thought.

It may be love or it may be the warmth of the sunshine coming in through the window. The feeling of a kiss on your forehead or the sound of waves crashing on the shore. Find the one thought you’d want to hold on to if you had to release everything else. Release everything else. Sit in your breath and your thought.

Finally, let that thought go. Send it out into the world with your breath. Don’t breathe in.

There, for a moment, for just a second, you are empty. Let your god fill you, let your passion sustain you. Pick the person you want to be now. Decide which of the burdens you want to pick back up, which stresses are worth your energies. At this point, listen to the heart beating in your chest, feel it’s power in your body.

Take a breath and be born anew.
